About the only thing that comes to us without effort is old age. Old age loves the company of aches and pains and health issues. It also brings with itself dull ,lackluster, aged skin. There are 2 causes of skin aging - Intrinsic and Extrinsic.
Intrinsic aging
Also called internal aging is a natural aging process. The collagen production slows, dead cells do not shed quickly making the skin look dull.Although this starts in the mid 20’s, the signs are not visible for decades.
Extrinsic aging
Also called external aging is caused by external factors. Some of such factors are:-
1) Sun Exposure - Without proper sun protetction, a few minutes of sun exposure every day can lead to premature againg of skin also called Photoaging. Freckles, age spots, loose and wrinkled skin is due to sun exposure.
2) Facial Expresions - Repetitive facial movements lead to fine lines and wrinkles.
3) Smoking - Cigarette smoking accelerates aging.
4) Sleeping positions - Sleep lines are caused by resting your face on the pillow the same way every night.
Prevention is better than cure
We cannot stop the natural aging process. But what we can do is prevent and protect ourselves. The first and most important step is to apply SPF or a Sunblock before going out in the sun.Stop smoking. Eat right. Drink lots of water.
